Surfing locations in Bali
Indonesia - The World's Surfing Playground
Everyday in Bali there is a wave suited to the ability of any guest. It is never completely flat here meaning you will be able to surf everyday of your trip. You can choose if you want rights or lefts, fast hollow waves or slow mellow walls, challenging shallow reefs or sand bottom beach breaks.
Below is a snapshot of a small number of the waves we visit during your stay ▼
Kuta Beach, Legian, Padma and Halfway
A series of fantastic beach breaks suited to all abilities, on high tide there are a number of long, mellow walls to learn and perfect your technique on, and low tide provides the perfect high performance fast barrel. Sand bottom so not as dangerous as the coral reefs and therefore perfect to practice your barrel riding.
Kuta Reef, Middles, Airport Lefts, Airport Rights
A series of reef breaks accessible by boat minutes away from our accommodation. Often the first stop for many first timers surfing reefs. Deep water channels provide plenty of safety. Kuta Reef and Middles are more suited to intermediate surfers and Airport Lefts and Rights suited to intermediate and advanced surfers.
Medewi & Balian
Medewi is a long left point break breaking gently over round cobble stones...often named a "Reverse Malibu" perfect for long boarders and learners. Noted for being slower than most of Bali's waves Medewi compensates for this by being one of Bali's longest lefts. Balian is a river mouth left and right beach break suited to all abilities. Balian translates as "magic healer" and is one of the best surfing stops on our itinerary.
Changgu
A good halfway stop between coral reefs and beach breaks, Changuu has a great right hand reef break over flat lava rock and a couple of playful lefts the opposite side of the beach. There are also many quiet and empty beach break waves nearby!
Uluwatu
A more serious wave suited for intermediate and advanced surfers. Very rarely flat and a great place to surf or just watch the pros. The reef provides a number of different peaks to spread the crowds out which can link up on the bigger days. Certainly one of the jewels in the crown of Balinese surfing.
Balangan
A long, fast left hand reef break close to dreamland. On high tide the wave breaks in deep water so is a good place to practice your left hand reef surfing as is less consequential then many reefs on the Bukit Peninsular. Balangan is also the area's most beautiful white sand beach with beachside warungs and temples and an in-shore lagoon perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
Bingin & Impossibles
Bingin is Bali's most make-able barrel, on low tide only suited to advanced surfers but high tide provides a mellower left and a very easy right suited to beginners. Impossibles is aptly named due to the impossible sections you have to race, however on its day is a fantastic wave for intermediates and advanced surfers.
Dreamland
A fun beach break providing hollow, rip-able lefts and rights suited to all abilities, the beach also is a great area for beginners to learn to surf, there is also a deep water reef just off the cliffs and a few other waves located nearby.
Padand Padang, Padang Rights
Padang Padang is known as the Balinese Pipeline, fast, hollow and dangerous but very rewarding. Home to the Ripcurl "Search" event in 2008 World Championship Tour. Experienced surfers surf the reef whist intermediates often surf the mellow and fun right hander breaking close to the beach.
Playgrounds, Shipwrecks and Lacerations
The three most surfed waves on the island of Nusa Lembongan. Playgrounds is a fun left and right reef popular with less experienced surfers, Shipwrecks is a high quality right hand reef popular with intermediates and experienced surfers and Lacerations is a fast hollow and shallow right-hand reef break popular with more experienced surfers.
